Introduction
Although ESB Networks aim to read your meter 4 times a year, this is not always possible and sometimes estimated reads will be used to calculate your bills. This will always be clearly marked with a letter on the bills showing how they have calculated the units used:
A or no letter means an actual meter read by ESB Networks.
C – means a read submitted by the customer.
E – Estimated bills based on previous consumption.

How to Read Your meter
Estimated bills
If you receive a bill which has been estimated, you should check your meter to see if there is a significant difference between the estimate and what is shown by the meter. If there is a difference you can submit your own meter read to ESB Networks by phone on 1850 337 777 or you can submit a meter read online. ESB Networks will use this information to update their estimates to make them more accurate in the future.
If you would also like to have your bill corrected, you should contact your supplier directly when you receive the bill.
How to Read Your Meter
To read your meter, simply note the numbers shown from left to right.
Make sure to write down any zeros including any at the start of the reading. Ignore figures in red.

There are two main types of meter.
The most common is the Single Tariff Meter.
It records all electricity usage on one dial.

The reading on this meter is '26453'.
If you are a NightSaver customer you may have a Double Tariff Meter which has two dials.
One records daytime consumption and the other records consumption at night.
The readings on this meter are: DAY '26453', NIGHT '00050'.
